Sengokuhara Susuki Grass Field

Hakone's premier silver-grass (susuki) destination, spreading across the slopes of Mt. Daigatake. Selected as one of the "50 Scenic Views of Kanagawa" and one of "Kanagawa's 100 Flower Spots," the field turns from silver to golden hues in autumn as it fills with susuki plumes. A roughly 700-meter walking path runs through the center of the field, letting visitors walk among the waves of susuki in about 30 minutes round trip. Framed by the Sengokuhara mountain range, the grand scenery is easy to visit en route to Nikko or Gora, making it one of the highlights of an autumn visit to Hakone.
A spectacular autumn view shifting from silver to gold
The field is typically at its best from late September to early November. Early in the season, the plumes shine a beautiful silver in the sunlight, and as autumn deepens, they open up, gradually shifting the field to a pale golden hue. The sight of susuki swaying in the wind against the backdrop of Mt. Daigatake has a grand scale unique to Hakone.
Enjoying the susuki field along the walking path
A walking path runs straight through the center of the field for about 700 meters. Visitors can experience walking wrapped in susuki plumes, with a round trip taking about 30 minutes. Early morning or dusk brings an even more magical scene, depending on the light.
