A Western-style house originally built in Tokyo as the residence of Meiji-era diplomat Sadatsuchi Uchida, and later relocated to the Yamate Italian Garden. Designed by American architect J. M. Gardiner, its veranda colonial-style exterior is a highlight, and it is designated a National Important Cultural Property.
From a diplomat's residence to a National Important Cultural Property
Built around 1910 in Shibuya, Tokyo, as the residence of Meiji government diplomat Sadatsuchi Uchida, the house was relocated and restored in the Yamate Italian Garden in 1997. It was designed by American architect J. M. Gardiner, who also worked on the Nikolai Cathedral. It is designated a National Important Cultural Property.
Stroll the Yamate Italian Garden together
The adjacent "Yamate Italian Garden" also contains the similarly relocated "Bluff No. 18," allowing visitors to enjoy both Western-style houses and gardens together. In July and August, opening hours are extended to 18:00.
