Yuigahama Beach
由比ガ浜
Kamakura's most accessible beach from the city center. Known for its gentle waves and shallow shoreline, it draws large crowds of swimmers in summer. It's also conveniently located right by Yuigahama Station on the Enoden line. The sunset sinking into the horizon here is one of Kamakura's signature views.
Swimming and surfing
Yuigahama is Kamakura's most popular beach. With its shallow shoreline and relatively gentle waves, it's ideal for family swimming. During summer (July-August) it's officially opened as a swimming beach, with lifeguards on duty.
A spectacular sunset
The sunset viewed from Yuigahama is one of Kamakura's finest sights. The sun sinking into the sea, with the silhouettes of Enoshima and Mount Fuji floating in the distance, is breathtakingly beautiful. In the evening, many photographers and couples gather to enjoy the sunset.
Continuous with Zaimokuza Beach
Yuigahama stretches about 1.3 km from Sakanoshita in the west to Zaimokuza in the east. Combined with Zaimokuza Beach, it forms a long stretch of coastline popular with locals for morning jogs and walks.

A gentle spring is ideal for a walk, as the cherry blossoms fade and the sea begins to sparkle; many surfers can be seen.

July and August bring the official swimming season, with beach huts lining the shore in a lively resort atmosphere.
🍁 Autumn (Sep-Nov)
After swimming season ends, the beach returns to quiet. Autumn sunsets are especially beautiful, with clear skies often revealing Mount Fuji.

Fewer people in winter make the sea appear more transparent. Dress warmly for a pleasant walk.

- For the sunset, arrive 30 minutes before sundown. On clear autumn and winter days, the clear air makes Mount Fuji easy to see.
