Asaina Kiridoshi
朝比奈切通し
One of the "Seven Entrances of Kamakura," said to have been developed under the direction of Hojo Yasutoki, the third regent of the Kamakura shogunate. This mountain pass connects Junisho in Kamakura with Kanazawa Ward in Yokohama, and its moss-covered rock walls and babbling stream make it one of the most rugged, deeply wooded old roads in Kamakura.
A road developed by Hojo Yasutoki
Asaina Kiridoshi is an important road said to have been developed through the efforts of Hojo Yasutoki, third regent of the Kamakura shogunate. It connected Kamakura with Mutsuura (present-day Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama) and served as a route for transporting seafood, salt, and other goods.
Moss-covered rock and a streamside path
Compared to Kamakura's other kiridoshi passes, this one retains an especially natural character, with sections of the trail running alongside a stream between moss-covered rock faces. It offers a rare glimpse of what these mountain passes once felt like.
A route spanning Kamakura and Yokohama
The pass can be accessed from either the Junisho side in Kamakura or the Asaina-cho side in Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama, and can also be reached on foot from the direction of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine along the Kanazawa Kaido road. The entire mountain path is unpaved, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
