Lake Ashi Skyline
芦ノ湖スカイライン
A scenic toll road running north-south along the ridge of the outer rim mountains on the western shore of Lake Ashi. It consists of a main line running from Hakone Pass to Kojiri Pass and the Kojiri Line branching off toward Kojiri, and from its ridge road above 1,000 meters in elevation, visitors can take in a sweeping panorama of Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji together. Mikuni Pass, named for the former borders of Suruga, Sagami, and Izu provinces, is known as one of the finest viewpoints along the route, commanding views of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the Izu Peninsula, and it is a popular drive and touring route.
A scenic road along the outer rim ridge
The Lake Ashi Skyline is a toll road running north-south along the western ridge of the Hakone caldera's outer rim. It consists of a main line connecting Hakone Pass to Kojiri Pass and the Kojiri Line branching toward Kojiri, and from its ridge road at roughly 1,000 meters elevation, a grand view of Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji together unfolds.
Mikuni Pass, with its full view of Mount Fuji
Named for its location at the former meeting point of Suruga, Sagami, and Izu provinces, Mikuni Pass is the premier viewpoint along the Lake Ashi Skyline. From the observation park at 1,070 meters elevation, a sweeping panorama unfolds encompassing Mount Fuji in full, the Southern Alps, Suruga Bay, and the Izu Peninsula, with Mount Fuji's silhouette especially striking at dusk.
A popular drive and touring route
The road connects to the Hakone Skyline, managed by the Shizuoka Prefectural Road Corporation, making it a popular drive route running the length of the Izu-Hakone area. Motorcycles of 125cc or less are not permitted, so check in advance.
