Sankeien Garden
三溪園
A Japanese garden opened to the public in 1906 by businessman Hara Sankei, who made his fortune in the raw silk trade. Across its roughly 175,000 square meters, historic buildings relocated from Kyoto, Kamakura, and other locations (including 10 National Important Cultural Properties) are arranged in harmony with the changing seasons.

Businessman Hara Sankei (real name Tomitaro), who made his fortune in the raw silk trade, invested his personal wealth to build this Japanese garden, opening it to the public in 1906. Historic buildings relocated from Kyoto, Kamakura, and elsewhere are placed throughout, including 10 National Important Cultural Properties and 3 buildings designated as Tangible Cultural Properties by the City of Yokohama.
Harmony between seasonal scenery and historic architecture
This strolling-style garden centers on a pond with a three-story pagoda in view, offering cherry blossoms in spring, Japanese irises in early summer, and autumn foliage in fall. It is located in the Honmoku district, somewhat removed from Minato Mirai and Yamashita Park, and is generally accessed by bus.
