Kasho Uemon Main Store

Founded in 1957, this is one of Kawagoe's leading Japanese confectionery shops. Its signature "Imokoi," created alongside the shop's 1996 relaunch, is an original sweet made by wrapping sliced sweet potato and sweet red bean paste in a dough made from mountain yam and glutinous rice flour; it has become nationally famous as a byword for Kawagoe souvenirs. Each one is handmade, and it has been certified as a "Sai-no-Kuni Certified Quality Brand Product" by Saitama Prefecture. The main store, opened in 2024, is a directly operated shop with ample parking on the factory grounds, where freshly made sweet-potato treats such as Imokoi and Imopote line the shelves—enjoying them warm is a pleasure unique to the main store. The attached tea room also offers meals such as sweet-potato rice. This shop embodies the appeal of Kawagoe sweet potatoes—long praised since the Edo period as "sweeter than roasted chestnuts, at thirteen ri"—in the form of confectionery.
