Sasuke Inari Shrine
佐助稲荷神社
An Inari shrine tucked into a hillside wrapped in deep green, along the approach to Zeniarai Benzaiten. A tunnel of vermilion torii gates creates a magical atmosphere. Known as the "Shusse Inari" (Career Success Inari) for a legend of helping Minamoto no Yoritomo achieve his ambitions, it is worshipped for blessings in work and career advancement.
The tunnel of vermilion torii
Dozens of vermilion torii gates line the approach, creating a magical scene of arches continuing overhead as you walk. Reminiscent of Kyoto's Fushimi Inari Taisha, it's a popular hidden photo spot in Kamakura.
The connection to Minamoto no Yoritomo
Legend holds that after Minamoto no Yoritomo was exiled to Izu following the Heiji Rebellion, a deity in the form of an old man (the Inari god) appeared in his dream and urged him to raise an army. After founding the Kamakura shogunate, Yoritomo is said to have built the shrine as "Shusse Inari" (Career Success Inari), and it has been worshipped as such ever since.
A combined visit with Zeniarai Benzaiten
Zeniarai Benzaiten is about a 10-minute walk from Sasuke Inari Shrine. A popular route combines these two of Kamakura's premier spots for money luck and career success.

March and April bring spring flowers to the grounds, with a beautiful contrast between fresh greenery and the vermilion torii.
🌿 Summer (Jun-Aug)
As the greenery deepens in summer, the tunnel of torii becomes even more magical. The air is humid, but the green-wrapped space stays cool.
🍁 Autumn (Sep-Nov)
Especially beautiful when autumn foliage overlaps with the vermilion torii — best from mid-to-late November.
❄️ Winter (Dec-Feb)
With fewer visitors, you can take your time worshipping in the quiet grounds. The crisp winter air enhances the shrine's atmosphere.
