Onaridori Street
御成通り
A shopping street running about 300 meters south from Kamakura Station's west exit. In contrast to the tourist-oriented Komachi-dori, it retains a Showa-era, everyday local atmosphere, and has recently gained a following as "Ura-Kama" ("Behind Kamakura"), known for its hidden-gem cafes and boutiques.
The origin of "Onari-cho"
The area along Onaridori is called "Onari-cho," named for a former imperial villa once located here. In contrast to the touristy east exit side of Kamakura Station, the west exit side retains the feel of a quiet residential neighborhood.
A Showa-retro street loved by locals
Barbershops and everyday goods stores used by locals line the street alongside pastry shops, stylish cafes, and boutiques, creating a distinctive mix of old and new. In recent years, young people have taken to calling it "Ura-Kama," and it has drawn attention as an area where visitors can experience a "living Kamakura" different from the typical tourist spots.
Hidden-gem dining
Side streets just off the main road are dotted with beloved local restaurants frequented by residents. It offers a calmer style of cafe-hopping and street food than the bustle of Komachi-dori.
