Kyoonji Temple
教恩寺
The 12th temple on the Kamakura Thirty-Three Kannon pilgrimage, belonging to the Ji sect. Its principal Amida Nyorai statue is traditionally attributed to the sculptor Unkei. Despite being within walking distance of Kamakura Station, it sees few visitors, making it a small temple where you can worship in quiet.
A principal image attributed to Unkei
Formally named Chuzasan Daishoin Kyoonji, this Ji-sect temple's principal Amida Nyorai statue is traditionally said to be the work of Unkei (though this has not been confirmed), and it is designated an Important Cultural Property by Kanagawa Prefecture. The temple is also known as the 12th site on the Kamakura Thirty-Three Kannon pilgrimage.

Located in the Omachi area about a 7-8 minute walk south of Kamakura Station's east exit, the temple sees surprisingly few tourists despite its convenient access, allowing for a calm, quiet visit. It's an easy stop along a walking route toward Zaimokuza and Yuigahama.
