Founded in 1859, this venerable restaurant has served Nikko-style yuba (tofu skin) cuisine for over 150 years. Located close to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, it lets visitors savor Nikko's distinctive yuba dishes, including the signature "yuba-zukushi set," fresh yuba sashimi, and simmered rolled yuba.
A yuba restaurant with 150 years of history
Since opening in the late Edo period, the restaurant has continued serving Nikko's famous yuba cuisine using local ingredients. Thanks to its location within walking distance of the World Heritage shrines and temples, it has long been cherished by worshippers and tourists stopping by between sightseeing.
The signature "yuba-zukushi set"
The signature yuba-zukushi set is a luxurious meal that lets diners enjoy various textures and preparations of yuba at once, including fresh yuba sashimi and simmered rolled yuba. Nikko yuba is a traditional ingredient rooted in shojin (Buddhist vegetarian) cuisine; unlike the "yuba" of Kyoto, Nikko's version is written with different characters.
A convenient location for a meal before or after worship
Located in Kami-Hatsuishi-machi near Shinkyo Bridge and the entrance to Nikko Sannai, it's an easy stop before or after visiting Toshogu, Rinnoji, and Futarasan Shrine. Lunchtime can get crowded during peak tourist season, so allowing extra time is recommended.
